How to have a restaurant experience at home
A round-up of the best home dining options, as voted for by the MahiFX team.
With the colder weather and tightening lockdown restrictions making restaurant and patio dining a thing of the past, it’s difficult to break out of the monotony of your home cooking. Thankfully, restaurants across London are finding solutions and many have pivoted completely, offering fine dining takeaway or DIY meal kits that will have you feeling like the next Gordon Ramsay in no time. Until we’re able to meet and dine together again, here are some of our team’s favourites:
Ambassador General Store
“Your one-stop-shop where you can enjoy ready to cook meals and drinks.”
This was the perfect way to liven up a monotonous week at home and gave us an opportunity to flex our (arguably quite scrawny) culinary muscles whilst satisfying our curry cravings. Ambassador offers a range of meal kits from well-known Indian restaurants Gymkhana, Trishna, and Brigadiers that you can enjoy from the comfort of your home. Simply pick your kit, receive your box of delicious ingredients, and then prepare your dishes using the step-by-step guide. The food is absolutely delicious, and it was great to learn something that we can make again in the future.
“British seasonal produce through an Italian lens.”
We love the Luca at Home menu for two; a four-course meal that changes every couple of weeks, and requires minimal effort from us! Some dishes need the odd finishing touch, but otherwise, it’s ready to go. We really enjoyed the inclusion of the chef’s guide as well, which made the experience feel a little bit more special.
“Creating you a unique Sunday Roast experience.”
What’s better than a delicious Sunday Roast on a cold winter evening? One that you don’t have to spend the day slaving over! Jack & Scott offer a selection of roast dinners (including a veggie option) cooked by Michelin trained chefs, plus some amazing desserts, which we found impossible to choose between. Of course, nothing will beat eating a roast in the pub, but it’s the next best thing whilst we’re on lockdown.
“Bringing a celebration of fine dining and a taste of James’ two Michelin-starred restaurant, Kitchen Table, to your own home.”
James has carefully designed accessible tasting menus offering seven and eleven course meals that bring the Michelin star experience to your door. We love that he continues to support independent, trusted suppliers, keeping things local and helping businesses that need our custom the most right now. You can even add courses and extras, as well as choose from a selection of sommelier-chosen wines and Champagnes. To be honest, whilst we do miss going out to restaurants, this experience made it much easier to roll to our couches after we’d finished…
“Padella is the culmination of Tim and Jordan’s long-held dream to open a pasta bar serving fresh, hand-rolled past with delicious sauces and fillings inspired by their trips to Italy.”
Got a pasta-lover in your household? One of our favourite Shoreditch haunts, Padella, is now trialling kits so you’re still able to get your pasta fix at home. We loved the ease of this meal, simply adding the finishing touches ourselves and including some antipasti to compliment the main courses.
